WORKSHOPS

Portrait Drawing in Charcoal

Returning in Early 2026 | Corrales, NM

This 8-week workshop offers a focused exploration of the fundamental principles behind effective portrait drawing. Students will develop an understanding of head structure through the study of planes, construction, and proportion, while learning techniques for tonal drawing that bring volume and form to life.

Each session will include instructor demonstrations, structured drawing time, and one-on-one feedback. We’ll take a close look at the individual features of the face, analyzing their forms and spatial relationships within the whole. Emphasis will be placed on careful observation, shape recognition, and capturing the unique character of each model to achieve a convincing likeness.

Portrait Painting in Oil

Coming Early 2026 | Corrales, NM

This 8-week workshop introduces students to the expressive and immediate techniques of alla prima (direct) portrait painting from life. Working in oils, participants will complete a fresh portrait study each week from a live, clothed model. The class focuses on capturing likeness, gesture, light, and color in a single session—emphasizing clarity of observation and confident, efficient paint handling.

Each session will include instructor demonstrations, structured drawing time, and one-on-one feedback. The final two sessions will feature a sustained two-week pose, giving students an opportunity to refine their approach and apply what they’ve learned.
